Person pleads guilty to sexual offenses against children at youth camp
A person who spiked candy with sedative and gave them to children at a summer camp in Leicestershire has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two children who were nine and ten years old.
The accused was detained after eight youngsters and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he stood at the judicial center on the end of the week.
However, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was involving a nine-year-old child.
The defendant was held in detention ahead of a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Treat game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She explained his victims were children from difficult backgrounds who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
The man engaged in a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as fast as possible".
She told the court Ruben had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had previously become sick the following morning.
She stated Ruben had been able to explain this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepson had suspicions in recently.
Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about what was going on, for good reason.
"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."
The legal counsel stated materials including lubricant, ointment and injection devices were located, and his stepson notified the authorities about his suspicions.
She explained Ruben continued to play the "candy game" with six children that time - July 26th - and they were all sick the next day.
"Law enforcement" had not responded by that point," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was reviewing the police response of the incident.
The legal representative explained the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member called the police again.
She stated the man then conducted the "sweet game" in a space of five children.
